Bike Repair Stand, Open to the Public
Plus New and Improved Pump
Bike Lambertville installed an outdoor bike repair stand and bicycle pump at the North Union Street Park (aka Cherry Street Park). The pump and repair stand are available to everyone 24/7. The repair stand and pump has tools for fixing flats, tightening nuts and bolts, and fixing myriad minor bike maladies. So top up your tire pressure, adjust your seat, and be back on the road in no time.
Special thanks to Hugh Marshall Landscape Contractors for donating the installation of the new pump.
The repair stand has the following tools:
- Phillips & standard screwdrivers
- Steel core tire levers (2)
- Headset/pedal wrench
- 8/10mm cone wrench
- 9/11mm cone wrench
- Torx T-25
- Hex key set
The pump works on both presta and schrader tire valves.
4 Feet, It’s the Law
The NJ Safe Passing Law (NJSPL) (A5570/S2208), in effect since March 1, 2022, provides clear rules of the road for all motorists about when and how to pass people sharing the road on bicycles, on foot, on scooters, wheelchairs or in other legally permitted ways to travel other than a motor vehicle.
Drivers are required to use “due caution” whenever they see vulnerable people on the road. The law states that:
- Drivers must follow all current no-passing, no speeding laws and move over a lane if there’s one to move into.
- On a single-lane road, drivers must allow at least a 4-foot safety zone when they pass.
- If 4 feet is not possible on a section of road, drivers must slow to 25mph and be prepared to stop until they can pass safely without endangering those sharing the road.
- For more information visit the Division of Highway Traffic Safety or New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition.

About Bike Lambertville

Bike Lambertville’s Mission
We bike where the river runs, and Bike Lambertville wants to celebrate our river city by presenting and promoting how great it is to be in a place where bike culture can grow and thrive through community inclusion and involvement. Lambertville is a destination – especially on your bike.
Our mission is to develop a bicycling culture across the Lambertville area by promoting safe routes and riders, accessible to everyone, where bicycling is a prevalent means of recreation and transportation.
Lambertville is a cycling mecca. The Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park path which extends 70 miles from Trenton to Frenchtown, beautiful Hunterdon County farm and country roads and scenery, classic Victorian architecture, art galleries, antique shops, coffee houses, restaurants, bike shops and much more, make Lambertville the area’s prime cycling hub. It’s a great place to ride.
Please Consider a Donation

Education
In the saddle, on your feet, or behind the wheel, Bike Lambertville wants everyone to be bike enthusiasts. Find our info packets around town at local spots or at our Bike Valet tent throughout the year at events like Shadfest. Knowing more leads to biking more!
We work hand-in-hand with goHunterdon, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to promoting sustainable transportation in Hunterdon County. With goHunterdon’s generous help, we work toward safe cycling for the rider, motorist, and pedestrian in and around Lambertville.
A note about bike safety in Lambertville: Please obey all traffic laws. Dismount and walk your bike on the bridge to and from New Hope. Ride with caution on the towpath, especially on weekends. And, of course, always be extra careful riding on our sometimes busy, narrow streets.

Advocacy

In June 2015, the League of American Bicyclists designated the City of Lambertville as a Bicycle Friendly Community at the Bronze level. This designation was made because of our dedication and efforts to make Lambertville a safe, fun, and convenient place to bicycle.
Bike Friendly Community
It all began when a group of residents wanted to make bike culture an integral part of the Lambertville community as well a safe cycling infrastructure for residents who bike to run errands, those who are bicycle commuters, and the many visitors and recreational cyclists who are drawn to the beautiful river town and to the D&R Canal Tow Path.
Bicycle Friendly Community status means that we have worked towards and continue to work on ways to give people of all ages and abilities the skills and confidence to ride in and around the city. We promote a strong bike culture that welcomes and celebrates bicycling for the city’s residents and its visitors.
Bike Lambertville works with the business community to increase the amount of high quality bicycle parking to keep up with the demand. We also work with our local bicycle shops, community event planners, and city officials to take key steps to move up to the Silver Level designation.
Transportation Alternatives Grant
The City of Lambertville, with assistance from Bike Lambertville and goHunterdon, was awarded a $150,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) for the construction of bicycle improvements. The TAP Grant project includes:
- bike racks for downtown streets and public buildings
- designation and signing of Union Street as a shared bike route
- the creation of two “Bike Central” stations. Each Bike Central station will incorporate an information kiosk, bike racks, a bike repair station with tools and an air pump, along with seating, lighting and landscaping. One will be located at the Cherry Street Park on North Union Street at the north end of Lambertville. The second one will be behind the Justice Center (ACME) adjacent to the D&R Canal towpath.
We expect the TAP Grant improvements to be completed in 2018.
Bike Lambertville Bike Racks

Free bike racks have been placed around Lambertville courtesy of Bike Lambertville. The Saris brand 6-bike racks are free to any business or organization that wants one. The racks provide convenient bicycle parking for cyclists running errands, riding to work, or visiting Lambertville.
Look for our bike racks positioned around town at your favorite storefronts. Need a rack? Ask us what we can do to get a rack to you!Ω
See a bike rack map at Google Maps.

Event Bike Parking
Like a coat check for bicycles, Bike Lambertville’s Event Bike Parking provides a safe, monitored spot to park your bike during a busy event like Lambertville’s annual Shad Fest. We have portable bike rack parking for about 40 bikes at a time. Rest assured that your bike is being watched by conscientious volunteers. And, if you like to travel light… leave your helmet, lock, and bags with your bike.
Please contact us to learn more about bike parking for next your event.
